Filing for Florida Homestead Exemption 2023

1. Exemptions are a form of tax relief that can reduce the taxable value of your property. You may apply for homestead exemptions on your principal residence. Homestead exemptions remove part of your home's value from taxation, so they lower your taxes.

To get started, head over to your county appraiser website.

2. To apply for a homestead exemption, the homeowner must be occupying the property as their homestead on January 1st of the tax year in which the exemption is granted.

Your application for homestead exemption must be filed by March 1st to receive the tax benefit for this year.

3. To submit the homestead application, you will need 4 items:

  • Valid Fl driver's license

  • Either a valid voter's registration or a Declaration of Domicile reflecting the homeowner's Florida address.

  • At least one of your automobiles must be registered in Florida

  • Proof of ownership of your property in the form of a copy of a tax bill or your deed

4. It is free to file on the Central Appraisal District website for the county that your property is located within.

You can now electronically file your residential homestead exemption online or via the mobile app.
