2. To apply for a homestead exemption, the homeowner must be occupying the property as their homestead on January 1st of the tax year in which the exemption is granted.
Your application for homestead exemption must be filed by March 1st to receive the tax benefit for this year.
3. To submit the homestead application, you will need 4 items:
Valid Fl driver's license
Either a valid voter's registration or a Declaration of Domicile reflecting the homeowner's Florida address.
At least one of your automobiles must be registered in Florida
Proof of ownership of your property in the form of a copy of a tax bill or your deed
4. It is free to file on the Central Appraisal District website for the county that your property is located within.
